Mayer Plumbing has been a cornerstone of the Custer community since its founding by the Mayer brothers in 1974. What began as a small, locally owned business has grown into a trusted name in the Black Hills region, renowned for professionalism, expertise and an unwavering commitment to customer service.
Now under the ownership of Philip and Shelly Bader, Mayer Plumbing continues to thrive. The Baders took over the business three years ago, ensuring the legacy of local ownership remained intact. Philip, with a background in plumbing, and Shelly, who shares his passion for maintaining a family-run business, found the opportunity through a mutual connection. “They wanted to keep it a small, family-owned local business, and we just feel so blessed that they chose us to take on their namesake and make it our own,” Shelly shared, reflecting on the seamless transition from the Mayer brothers.
One of Mayer Plumbing’s standout qualities is its extensive knowledge of the area. The team’s familiarity with Custer’s homes and infrastructure, some dating back to the 1970s, is a unique advantage. “People are amazed when they call us, and I know exactly where to go because I’ve been in their home before,” Philip explained.
Beyond providing plumbing services, Mayer Plumbing is committed to community enrichment. “We get complimented on the fact that we’re hiring locally and training up our team,” Philip said. “They’re established people here in town who want more local jobs, and we’re giving them not just a job but a career and a skill.”
This dedication to fostering local talent, delivering exceptional service, and embracing new technologies, Mayer Plumbing continues to stand out as a vital part of the Custer community.
