Cancer Care, Monument Health

One in two women and one in three men will develop cancer at some point in their lives. Cancer is a diagnosis that changes everything in a person’s life: perspectives, priorities, attitudes and feelings. Cancer is world-shaking, but treatment can be a source of hope.

Monument Health is a leader in the region when it comes to cancer care. It begins with a highly-connected team of caregivers. Abdel-Ghani Azzouqa, M.D., a Hematologist and Oncologist at Monument Health Cancer Care Institute, explained, “We believe in delivering the highest quality care for our patients. Patient care is our number one priority. We have a robust multidisciplinary approach, with radiation oncologists and involved specialists in cancer management. Our research program works with nationally renowned research groups, which can offer patients a glimpse into the future with the latest emerging therapeutics.” Patients benefit enormously from this team approach to treatment.

Monument Health is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. This special designation means that Monument Health caregivers have access to the research and expertise of Mayo Clinic. The Cancer Care Institute provides outpatient oncology services, supportive laboratory and imaging services, as well as services for related clinical research trials.

The expansion portion of the $36 million Cancer Care Institute project is complete, with the renovation of the previous space underway. The expansion, housed at the east end of the Rapid City Hospital campus, will improve patient comfort, facilitate more collaboration among specialists and allow cancer patients to receive care closer to home. The target completion is set for Summer 2023.
