Monument Health Gastroenterology provides the highest level of care for a full range of digestive system diseases including general gastroenterology, hepatology and interventional gastroenterology with hepato-pancreatic-biliary interventions. The GI team at Monument Health serves patients from their state-of-the-art Endoscopy Suite, completed in 2024, at Rapid City Hospital.
The number of digestive disease conditions leading to primary care physician visits and specialty referrals is progressively on the rise and Monument Health’s GI clinic works to fill this need in the community. Developing inpatient and outpatient services has included the use of cutting edge technology such as endoscopic ultrasound, which allows for treating patients in new ways.
This means patients who used to be referred for major surgeries, often with a high rate of complications, can now be taken as an out-patient procedure where the patient is often sent home the same day.
“Patient safety and care is number one,” Ali Zakaria, M.D., Director of Endoscopy and Gastroenterology, said. “If you really strive to do no harm, take care of your patients and you put their satisfaction and their medical needs number one, then you will be successful. That is my philosophy, and our entire team puts our knowledge and skills to work for the best outcomes for our patients and truly make an impact on our communities.”
