Monument Health

The Monument Health Breast Clinic care providers are members of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and have more than 50 years combined experience. This team provides state-of-the-art diagnosis, prevention and treatment and works collaboratively with general and plastic surgery to determine the best course and sequence of treatment for you.

The Breast Clinic at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital is a dedicated breast center treating benign and malignant breast diseases, as well as acute problems such as abscess, mastitis and cellulitis. This includes the High-Risk Breast Clinic, which was developed to help care for patients who are at an elevated risk of developing breast cancer secondary to family history, genetic susceptibility and personal breast biopsy-based risk factors.

Last year, the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers granted accredited status to the Monument Health Breast Care Program in Rapid City. The Rapid City team is led by Ashlea Semmens, M.D., Kendra Storm, DNP, and Sadie Harkins, PA-C.

“We greatly appreciate the unwavering community support and the opportunity to serve our patients in this region with the highest level of breast care,” said Dr. Semmens, who is a board-certified general surgeon, breast surgical oncologist and medical director of the breast surgery program.

This multidisciplinary team is equipped to provide state-of-the-art diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and prevention of all breast-related conditions.

In Spearfish, providers Nicholas Czosnyka, M.D., and Kayla Hatten, CNP, have a special interest in breast surgery and maintain a strong relationship with the Rapid City team.

“We work hand-in-glove with Rapid City’s services throughout the patient’s care journey,” Dr. Czosnyka said. “We love being able to provide a closer treatment option in Spearfish for patients at the outermost catchment of Monument Health’s service area.”

The Breast Surgery Team provides comprehensive, patient centered care for each patient through all aspects of the breast cancer journey and strives to be compassionate advocates for their patients.
