When Lisa DenHerder and her husband Rick first became grandparents, they would search for local baby stores anytime they traveled. During these shopping expeditions, the couple began to realize that the Black Hills were in need of this type of specialty store. “All signs pointed to opening a children’s boutique, so we went to work and created it.” DenHerder opened Kicks and Giggles, located in downtown Rapid City, in December of 2016. Since then, this charming boutique has become a part of the stories of many families.
For six years, Kicks and Giggles has brought in high-quality children’s clothing, car seats, and other baby gear to meet the desires of parents. While providing an in-person shopping experience, Kicks and Giggles has made giving back a priority by supporting family-friendly organizations, like Feeding South Dakota and United Way of the Black Hills. “We all know what it’s like to be hungry,” DenHerder says, “so it’s meaningful when we give to organizations who ensure families have food.”
Customers have come to know Kicks and Giggles for its welcoming environment, and DenHerder shares credit for this special experience of her boutique with her dedicated staff. “I’m so blessed to have a team of women who share their talents with me,” she says. “I’m grateful for each one of them — as we create a personal experience for our customers.”
DenHerder and her team look forward to the future, especially meeting the parents and grandparents — as well as family and friends — of the next generation. “We believe the store’s purpose is more than the goods; it’s connecting with people,” she says. “We consider ourselves blessed to be a part of their journey.”
