Enjoying a meal or a drink with people you love is the perfect combination of the best things in life — nothing pairs better with a great meal than a great connection. Janet Boyer is the owner of Mt. Rushmore Brewing Company and the Pounding Fathers Restaurant. One of her favorite aspects of owning this Custer establishment is that she gets to see families sit down, unwind and connect. “I love that we’re providing one-on-one time for couples. Every day, I see moms and dads who will sit and sip a beer and have a good visit. We have an area where the kids can go and entertain themselves for a bit. And that makes me feel good to see that.”
Mt. Rushmore Brewing and the Pounding Fathers Restaurant is, at its heart, a place to connect. “It’s a comfortable space,” she explains. “Folks will grab a deck of cards or board game; they’ll play cornhole. People are just really able to focus on each other when they’re here.”
With two large decks that overlook the Mickelson Trail and a street side patio on Mount Rushmore Road, the setting lends itself to connection and so does the food and drink. “The food is phenomenal and the beer is excellent. We do lagers and pilsners the best. And we age our darker beers in whisky barrels.” This process gives their beers a unique flavor profile. “And the food is extraordinary,” Janet goes on. “It’s all regional food from South Dakota — pheasant, bison, quail, walleye. We use fresh ingredients every day, and we prepare the dishes really well.”
Janet and her team are proud of what they’re providing in the community. She says, “We start at home. We want our community to be happy and healthy — whatever we can do to help with that, that’s at the top of our list.”
