Digital Downsizing

The clock is ticking — and every year, it ticks a little louder,” said Stephanie Csornok, owner of Digital Downsizing. She’s talking about the slow but steady decay of analog media. “VHS tapes, for example, were only meant to last about 25 years. With each passing year, it gets harder to pull a crisp video off those old tapes.”
And it’s not just VHS. Photos, slides, film, vinyl records — every analog format deteriorates over time. Stephanie’s warning rings loudest when those fragile materials hold something irreplaceable: family history.
It all started with her own family’s photos. When she realized no one nearby was offering restoration or digitization services, she decided to step up and do it herself — and discovered a real need for it in the Black Hills. “We’re so steeped in rich family history here,” she said.
Since then, Digital Downsizing has continued to grow. Today, Stephanie has the equipment and expertise to handle nearly any format, making sure precious memories don’t disappear to time or fade away in a shoebox.
Mail-away services might seem convenient, but Stephanie has seen the downside. “I’ve had several people come to me after using them — and they were definitely not satisfied with the results.” Working with a local business means you can hand-deliver your fragile photos, slides and tapes, rather than shipping your only copies across the country. Stephanie also takes the time to meticulously clean up dust and debris in a way that mail-away services simply can’t.
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about tapes or film — it’s about the stories they hold. Stephanie makes sure those stories don’t fade with time, but live on for the next generation. Call (605) 431-1771 to get started.
