Dakota Seafood

Levi and Viola Venner, the couple who own and operate Dakota Seafood, believe food has the power to bring people together. “Gathering around the table with family and friends is where real nourishment happens,” Viola said. “Sharing meals at home nurtures both body and soul, and we’re proud to help make that possible with quality ingredients and approachable options.”
Seafood is naturally at the heart of this fresh market’s offerings. Levi, a South Dakota native and classically trained chef with 20 years of culinary experience, works closely with Viola, who brings extensive seafood sourcing and business expertise. “Because seafood is so delicate, we carefully manage ordering and shipping, often going directly to fisheries or oyster farms,” Levi said. By sourcing seafood this way, Dakota Seafood unlocks flavors that residents of the Black Hills would rarely get to taste or afford otherwise.
Creating culinary experiences in the community is another vital part of what Dakota Seafood offers. Their pop-ups and events invite locals to explore flavors from both nearby and the coast, expanding culinary horizons while encouraging important moments of connection.
Since becoming sole owners of Dakota Seafood in late 2025, Viola and Levi have expanded and carefully curated the shop’s gourmet selection. “We’ve introduced more specialty items and continue to partner with local producers,” Viola said. From fresh truffles imported from Italy to ravioli lovingly crafted by a family in New York, Dakota Seafood is also a hub for locally sourced cheeses, vegetables, meats and more. By thoughtfully curating their selection, they keep flavors exciting, celebrate the unique tastes of each season and maintain accessibility and affordability.
