Healthsource of Rapid City and Spearfish

Walk into HealthSource of Rapid City or Spearfish and one thing becomes immediately clear: this is a place where people feel seen. Laughter in the lobby, easy conversations with staff, and providers who take time to listen
can all be found at these cutting-edge chiropractic clinics.
For Dr. Samantha Lucas, who owns and practices at HealthSource of Spearfish, chiropractic care was never just a career choice. It was personal. “I had a mom who really struggled with pain and struggled with addiction because of relying on medication,” she shared. “I wanted to try to provide something
that she didn’t have access to. Something that could have changed her life.” That desire still drives her work today. “Most people
are looking for another option,” Dr. Lucas said. “A safer option.
A more holistic option. They want the best.”
Dr. Kilby Rech, who owns and practices at HealthSource of Rapid City, came to chiropractic through lived experience as well. He grew up watching his mother battle headaches and neck pain while cycling through medications and therapies that never addressed the underlying issue. “If you’re just trying to numb the pain without fixing the problem, it’s just going to repetitively keep coming back,” he explained.
That realization shaped his philosophy of care. “What is the best for this patient that can be customized under my scope?” Dr. Rech said. “That’s where I think HealthSource does an awesome job.
We can work on the full musculoskeletal system with cutting-edge tools that a lot of other clinics don’t have — like spinal decompression or laser therapy.”
Those tools are a defining feature of HealthSource, particularly when it comes to disc injuries and chronic spine conditions. Spinal decompression, laser therapy and other state-of-the-art techniques and tools play a central role, often helping patients avoid or delay surgery.
Dr. Bob McIntosh played a key role in the early development of the HealthSource clinics in both Rapid City and Spearfish, and he knows firsthand the challenges of navigating chronic pain within a disconnected healthcare system. After a snowboarding accident left him with years of headaches and neck pain, he experienced a fragmented healthcare system where providers rarely communicated. “Nobody would collaborate and work together,” he said. “It was about their ego and their practice, not about making sure everybody was on the same page.”
Later, after suffering a serious disc herniation in his low back, that perspective sharpened. “That’s where decompression started,” Dr. McIntosh explained. “And then laser, being able to heat up and super-treat the disc. Being able to have those therapies to address these normally surgical conditions and turn them non-surgical.”
That collaborative mindset now defines both clinics. HealthSource regularly works alongside orthopedists, physical therapists, pain management providers and surgeons when needed. “We’re willing to concede that there are limitations,”
Dr. Lucas said. “If we don’t think we can help anymore, we make sure they get in the right hands.”
In the end, the goal is straightforward. As Dr. Rech explained, “It’s all patient-driven. We strive to get our patients the best results while also giving them a great experience.” Put simply, HealthSource exists to help people live pain-free.
