Jennifer’s path to interior design began with the inspiration of her parents. As an architect and interior designer, Jennifer was born and educated in England, United Kingdom (UK).
Her first job was working as an assistant for a fashion designer which included travel across the world. Then, she worked for her mum for a short period of time before joining the team at Sanderson fabrics working in sales and eventually began working alongside textile designers.
Jennifer met her husband Brad while he was stationed in England with the United States Air Force and their connection was instant after seeing the man in uniform standing at 6’3”. Once married, they followed his orders stateside to Utah. Together, they have three children – a daughter who lives in Rapid City, a daughter who lives in Spearfish, and a son who lives in Denver, Colo. – and numerous grandchildren. Moving to multiple bases throughout Brad’s 20 years in the military, Jennifer and her family settled in South Dakota after being stationed at Ellsworth AFB and have called the area home for the past 25 years.
From running her own businesses to working in sales, Jennifer has always kept to her path in interior design. When moving to South Dakota, she took a position at JC Penney managing the window treatment department and eventually became one of the top sales managers in the country. In 2007, Jennifer focused her talents into opening the doors of At Home Design – an interior design showroom working with clients on transforming their spaces to reflect their personalities.
“I make it a point to get to know each of my clients and what they want and need in their space. While I initially will go to their home to look at the area and see which pieces they are wanting to use in their room, it’s enjoyable, and beneficial to have them into our showroom for a cup of tea and be surrounded by the creative energy our showroom brings,” Jennifer said. “There isn’t a ‘one style fits all’ mentality here, and I’m proud of that.”
Since 2007, At Home Design has had four locations in Rapid City growing its footprint with each move. Today, the public showroom and design center that covers over 5,000 square feet can be found on the high-traffic corner of West Main Street and Jackson Boulevard.
Jennifer has a strong team of designers, consultants, and trades working alongside her. From custom blinds and window treatments made at their onsite drapery workroom, to numerous other services such as design consultations, 3D rendering, furniture, flooring, tilework, and more – At Home Design is adept in all aspects of interior design. They strive to offer their clients a supported, professional experience from start to finish.
“Home upgrades – whether they are remodels or ad hoc projects – can be a stressful decision and implementation for some people, and we are here to make sure they feel supported throughout the process,” Jennifer said.
For the past 19 years in business, Jennifer has had the privilege of working with repeat clients and numerous businesses throughout western South Dakota. The showroom has become a hub of creativity for industry professionals, as well – using the vast amount of samples available for their own clients’ projects.
“I love what I do,” Jennifer said. “We have worked hard to grow At Home Design into the design center it is today with thousands of samples and available vendors to both the public and industry professionals. I enjoy coming to work every day, and that – to me – is the best feeling anyone could ask for.”
