Prima School of Dancing

Ninety years — that’s how long Prima School of Dancing has been nurturing generations of dancers, not only in technique but in life. Founded by Genevieve Silver in 1935, the studio flourished later under her daughter, Terri, and, since 2003, has continued to grow under Christy Remington’s leadership.

Christy’s connection to Prima is personal. “She was three and a half when her mom asked if she could start dancing,” Terri recalled. “I didn’t usually take kids that young, but I made an exception for her.” Christy quickly caught Terri’s eye for her work ethic, kindness and beauty as a ballerina. “She was also always so kind and generous,” Terri said fondly.

When it was time for Terri to retire, she knew Christy was ready to carry on the studio’s legacy. “I had no doubt Christy would take it forward,” Terri said. “I just wanted her to do even better than I had.”

“Terri’s always been there for me, whether it’s been talking about a recital theme, or business or just the reality of what it’s like on your body to teach all night,” Christy said. “It’s just been such a blessing to me to have such a close mentor and friend.”

Terri added that Christy’s husband, Ryan, has been vital to the studio’s success, too. “Christy is very fortunate to have this really strong guy. Her husband is amazing. You should see him behind the scenes. He’s encouraged her. He’s helped her. It’s a wonderful partnership. And I can’t say it enough.”

Together, Terri and Christy have made Prima a rare place where countless lives have been touched. As Prima looks ahead to its next 90 years, one thing is certain: the legacy of dance, friendship and dedication will continue to inspire future generations of dancers, just as it has for nearly a century.
