The founders of Property Meld, David Kingman and Ray Hespen, two talented engineers who attended South Dakota Mines, developed a software solution to improve property management’s maintenance experience. They started as a remote company, with team members across the U.S., but in 2018 they were presented with the opportunity to put some roots back in the Black Hills.
The Black Hills are developing some of the nation’s finest minds in engineering and science. Still, most opportunities awaiting these capable people are out of state. The same was true for Ray, who found himself working and renting across the country, but if he had the opportunity to stay, he would have.
Joining the Ascent Innovation Tech Incubator, the two founders focused on developing and retaining great local talent. Property Meld became a beacon, drawing talent who once had to leave the area due to a lack of opportunity.
Fast forward, and Property Meld has become the number one platform for property management in North America — from its headquarters in downtown Rapid City. “This was a bold move for Ray and David; everyone from advisors to early investors wondered why we weren’t in San Francisco, San Antonio, or Austin,” explains Madison Zimmerman, Director of Marketing.
The future of Property Meld is even more exciting than its thrilling inception narrative. “We have monumental growth plans for 2023 that continue our focus on developing and growing talent in this beautiful place we call home, all with the mission to impact lives across North America with a delightful maintenance experience,” says Autumn Hughes, Director of People.
